A.S. Degree Program / 73 Credit Hours
To provide the required academic and clinical nursing skills that prepare students to enter into a specialized career in the nursing field. Associate in Science, nurses is employed in a variety of healthcare settings including hospitals, ambulatory care settings, long-term care facilities, home health agencies, private duty opportunities, and other appropriate medical areas.
Program Description
This program provides students with the theoretical, hands-on training and practical experience needed to pursue a rewarding career in the healthcare industry. Students will gain fundamental concepts of nursing, nutrition, maternal/infant/child nursing, mental health, medical/surgical nursing, anatomy and physiology, psychology, and microbiology. Students will learn how to assess patient health problems and needs, develop nursing care plans and provide care to patients. Students will learn how to care for the physical and emotional well-being of patients, protect patients’ safety and personal rights, and use critical thinking skills to make clinical decisions alone or in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team.

Associate in Science Degree Program | A Pathway towards Becoming A Registered Nurse
Still, that alone will not make you an RN. Once you are done with any of those degrees, you will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam that will make you a licensed RN nurse.
What is An Associate in Science Nursing Degree?
The AS degree is a two-year program that includes nursing, anatomy, chemistry, nutrition, microbiology, and nursing.
You will also need to take some general classes in liberal arts. An associate in science nursing program is a great and popular option for RNs. It opens for you the door to entry-level nursing positions that will give you the right hands-on experience in the medical field.
So, you can become a Registered Nurse in just two years, with an associate of science degree, and get to work in many healthcare facilities as a first-line caregiver. RNs are in high demand today, and most hospitals strive to accommodate them with their growing patient population.
Credentials for a Registered Nurse
As we have mentioned above, once you have completed your associate’s in science degree, you do not automatically become a registered nurse. RNs are required to meet many other qualifications before becoming licensed, one of which is to pass the NCLEX-RN exam. The rest include the following;
Licensure
To become a full Registered Nurse, you must earn your license. It is the last step to becoming one, and prospective nurses usually get licensed by the state board of Nursing after completing their degree. They must pass the NCLEX-RN exam.
Each state board has different standards for this, and you are likely to require additional training courses for you to qualify for a license. However, some states will allow you to practice with just a permit.
Certifications
With an associate in science nursing program degree, you will not require certifications, but getting some optional credentials will provide you with more significant opportunities in your profession. The AACN – American Association of Critical Care Nurses offers some certifications for RNs.
The qualifying RNs will have to complete a certain number of hours and pass the exam to achieve this. You will become validated as a registered nurse with skills in your specialized area when you have this credential.
